Big Sky Region
Futurity Dog of the Year

hosted by the Golden Triangle Sporting Dog Club

  1. The intent of this award is to promote the training and trialing of pointing dogs. Recognizing the level of excellence it takes to win the Big Sky High Point Dog of the Year, the Golden Triangle Sporting Dog Club (GTSDC) sponsors this award to recognize the up and coming dogs and handlers. They are the "future" champions.
  2. The qualification dates will be the same as for the Big Sky Regional trial (i.e. June – May). The award will begin with the 2001/2002 Big Sky NSTRA trial season.
  3. All dogs that are not a NSTRA Champion as defined under NSTRA rules, at the beginning of the trial year are eligible.
  4. Any dog that is eligible at the beginning of the trial year is still eligible if he/she earns his/her championship during that trial year.
  5. Points will be awarded under the standard NSTRA point system in the rulebook.
  6. Points that count for the Big Sky High Point Dog will be accumulated during that trial season. The qualified dog that has the most points on high point list for the year will be the Big Sky Futurity Dog of the Year. It does not matter who handles the dog during the year. The owner of the dog must be qualify to be on the Big Sky High Point list as per the Big Sky Region and NSTRA rule.
  7. If a qualified dog wins the Big Sky High Point Dog of the Year, the Big Sky Futurity Dog of the Year will go to the next highest placing qualified dog.
  8. In the event of a tie there will be a run-off according to the rules for NSTRA field trials (i.e. 2 birds-15 minute brace) at the end of Saturday trial at the Big Sky Regional Trial. In the event a dog is not available for the run off, that dog will be eliminated from consideration (i.e. it goes to the dog that is available or if it was a 3-way tie, the run off will be with the 2 available dogs.)
  9. The owner of the Big Sky Futurity Dog of the Year will be awarded a traveling trophy supplied by the GTSDC. Winners will be listed on the trophy with the number of points accumulated listed. The trophy will be awarded at the Big Sky Regional Trial and owner of the trophy will be entitled to keep the trophy until the next regional trial.
  10. The current standing Golden Triangle Sporting Dog Club (GTSDC) board of directors will decide any rule disputes or challenges. Their decision is final.
  11. Should the GTSDC decide to discontinue this award, the trophy will be returned to the GTSDC. Discontinuation of this award is at the sole discretion of the GTSDC board. Disposition of the trophy at the point of discontinuation will be at the sole discretion of the current board of directors for the GTSDC.
